Unnao rape case victim was critically injured after the vehicle in which she was travelling collided with a truck in Rae Bareli on Sunday.

The victim was travelling with her two aunts and lawyer Mahendra Singh. Two of her aunts died in the accident while the victim and her lawyer are reportedly in critical condition.

The truck was on its way to Lalganj, Uttar Pradesh when it collided with the victim's car. She was reportedly on her way to meet her uncle Mahesh Singh, who is lodged in Rae Bareli jail.

The victim and her lawyer are receiving treatment at King George Medical University (KGMU) Trauma Centre in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

The Unnao rape case made headlines last year after the 16-year-old girl (then) alleged that she was raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar when she visited the legislator to seek employment in June, 2017.

Later, the victim attempted self-immolation in front of the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence on April 8 alleging inaction on the part of the police against the BJP leader.

The Unnao rape case along with the Kathua rape case had triggered nationwide protests.

The victim's father died in prison of injuries he allegedly sustained after being beaten up by MLA Kuldeep Sengar’s men.

BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar, along with his brother Atul Singh, has been in jail since 2018.
