Former Union minister Jaipal Reddy dies at 77

Senior Congress leader and former Union minister S. Jaipal Reddy died at a hospital in Hyderabad in the early hours of Sunday, sources close to him said. He was 77. He was recently diagnosed with pneumonia and admitted to the hospital, where he died at 1.28 am. 

Reddy's funeral would take place in Hyderabad on Monday.

IMD predicts ‘very heavy’ rains in Mumbai today

The India Meteorological Department has predicted “heavy to very heavy” rains in Mumbai, including “extremely heavy” rain in isolated places, for Sunday.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said it was prepared for the monsoon onslaught and asked citizens to be careful. BMC ward officials have been asked to visit areas in their jurisdiction to monitor the situation on the ground. Citizens have also been asked to avoid venturing into the sea and opening manhole covers.

Hong Kong braces for new rally after fresh clashes

Protesters in Hong Kong are planning another big rally later on Sunday, a day after police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at activists who gathered to protest an attack by suspected triad gang members at a train station last weekend. Eleven arrests have been made, police said. Hospital authorities said that 24 people were injured, with two in serious condition.

Another rally has been planned on Sunday afternoon.

German Grand Prix: Hamilton secures 87th pole position 

Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes secured a record-extending 87th pole position of his career and fourth of the season on Saturday in qualifying at the German Grand Prix. The defending five-time world champion clocked a best lap in one minute and 11.767.

The German Grand Prix at Hockenheim, the 11th race of the 2019 Formula One season, will begin at 6.40 pm IST on Sunday.
