A dawn-to-dusk hartal announced by the Shiv Sena in Kerala on October 1 to protest the Friday's Supreme Court ruling that no women should be barred from entering Sabarimala has been called off.
The party's local functionaries said they were calling off the general strike in view of the inconveniences it may cause to the flood relief activities.
The party said instead they will organise several programmes to mark their protest on the 'judgement that has ignored the traditions and based itself solely on rationale.'
The right-wing party, which has sparse presence in Kerala, had earlier on Saturday said that it will associate with other like-minded outfits to file the review petition against the SC ruling.

The Supreme Court on Friday paved the way for entry of women of all ages into the Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala in Kerala. A five-judge constitution bench said that banning the entry of women into the shrine is gender discrimination and the practice violates rights of Hindu women. Various Hindu outfits in Kerala had called for a state-wide hartal (general strike) a few months ago against Kerala government's support for women's entry to the Sabarimala temple.
