Rape-accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal was arrested on Friday

Bishop Franco Mulakkal, arrested for allegedly raping a nun at a convent in Kerala, has been sent to two-day police custody. The bishop, arrested on Friday night, was produced before the Pala district magistrate on Saturday. The court, dimissing Bishop Mulakkal's bail plea, sent him into police custody till September 24. 

The bishop, who strongly contended against his police custody, alleged that the police forcibly collected his blood and saliva samples. 

The police had arrested on Friday Bishop Mulakkal after questioning him for three days. Soon, the bishop was subjected to a medical examination at the Thrippunithura taluk hospital. The 54-year-old clergyman was then taken to Kottayam Police Club. However, en route to Kottayam, the bishop complained of chest pain and was admitted to the medical college. According to police sources, the medical tests at Thrippunithura had revealed that the bishop's blood pressure was high.

The bishop has been discharged from the Kottayam Medical College Hospital in Kerala where he was admitted on Friday night after he complained of chest pain. However, the bishop was soon discharged and produced before the court on Saturday.
