The Kerala government had announced an immediate relief amount of Rs 10,000 to each of the families affected by the devastating floods in the state. However, lakhs of those victims are still waiting for the money to be credited in their accounts as they lost their bank details in the severe flooding.

The finance ministry had allotted Rs 242.73 crore to be handed over to 3,91,494 families in the 14 districts of the state. However, less than 5,000 families have received the amount so far, says a report on the manoramaonline.

Out of the Rs 10,000 allotted to each family, Rs 3,800 will be released from the State Disaster Relief Fund and Rs 6,200 from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The task of distribution of the amount has been entrusted with the respective district collectors. However, the authorities are finding it difficult to give away the money as many of the flood victims have lost their passbook and other bank details.

Of late, it has been decided to use a mobile app with the help of local self government institutions to find out the real account holders.

Unprecedented monsoon rains coupled with a series of landlsides and flashfloods have left a trail of destruction in the southern state where at least 480 people were killed and over a million people were left homeless.
