Cochin International Airport, which had closed due to heavy rains and floods, will resume the full-scale operations at 2pm on Wednesday. The airport authorities said all airlines will follow the current schedule for operations.

Services from Kochi naval air base will be suspended from Wednesday noon. The naval air base at Willingdon Island was opened up for commercial flights on August 20 after operations at the main airport in Nedumbasseri were disrupted due to severe flooding.

The incessant rains had left the runway, taxi bay and other areas of domestic as well as international terminals under water.

Last week, the airport officials had extended the date to resume operations from August 26 to August 29. The airport has suffered an estimated loss of nearly Rs 230 crore following the flood.

“Intimation regarding the readiness of the airport has been given to all airlines to make sure the smooth functioning of the services as per schedule,” said Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) on a Facebook post on Monday.

Passengers can now book tickets to/from Kochi as most of the airlines' sites have already started facilitating journey planner on or after August 29, it said.

Catastrophic floods and series of landslides triggered by torrential monsoon rains have killed at least 400 people and left a trail of destruction in the southern tourist state. Thousands of houses were completely damaged and lakhs of people were forced into relief camps.
