The body of a young girl found killed in Surat with signs of rape and torture bore 86 injury marks, including on her private parts. A doctor at the Civil Hospital in Surat had said the nature of injuries suggested that she was possibly held captive, tortured and raped.

Police are yet to confirm the identity of the girl who is assumed to be in age group of 9 to 11 years. The four-foot tall girl was wearing a blue pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Her body was found 10 days ago from the bushes near a cricket ground in the Bhestan locality.

Meanwhile, suspecting that the girl could be from Odisha, all the superintendents of police in the state were asked to collect information on the missing girls in their jurisdictions. The basis of the suspicion was that a large number of people migrated from Odisha to Surat.

The police has announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for anyone who provided clue about the girl. Minister of State for Home Pradipsinh Jadeja said the victim was believed to be from some other state, possibly Odisha.

An FIR has been lodged under sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 376 (rape) of the IPC and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against unidentified persons.
