WhatsApp groups with police and forest staff from Palakkad as members have allegedly been spreading CCTV visuals from Mukkali town in Attappadi, in what is being accused as a deliberate attempt to paint mob violence victim Madhu as a habitual thief.
The visuals show someone stealing food from shops and also eating items. At the same time, there is no confirmation that the man in the visuals taken on October 10 last year is Madhu.
While visuals prove the argument that the tribal youth was stealing food because he was too hungry, there is also the allegation that they are being circulated widely to rescue cops and forest officials who have been linked to the killing.
In another visual, the man can be seen eating from a pack of chocolates.
The allegation that Madhu used to steal regularly is being amplified at a time when forest officials have been increasingly accused of complicity in seizing the youth from a cave inside the forest and handing him over to a mob of killers.
