In a recently posted video that went viral on social media, former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli was seen speaking from an elderly care centre in Maharashtra.

The 54-year-old spoke candidly about his stay at the Nidan Centre for Elderly Care in Thane and praised the medical team and support staff for their dedicated assistance.

The video comes amid growing concerns about the personal well-being and health of the cricketer who played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs between 1991 and 2000.

What happened to Vinod Kambli?

As per TOI, in an interview, Marcus Couto, a friend of Kambli, clarified that the cricketer was at risk of suffering a brain stroke and is battling serious health challenges.

It was also reported that doctors diagnosed Kambli with a clot in his brain and impaired memory. He was advised to stay away from alcohol and smoking, as it was a huge risk of triggering a stroke.

What is a stroke?

According to the CDC, a stroke, also called a brain attack, occurs when something blocks blood supply to part of the brain or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts.

- Ischemic stroke, which occurs when blood flow to the brain becomes blocked or reduced

- Haemorrhagic stroke, which occurs when a blood vessel in the brain leaks or bursts and causes bleeding in the brain
