Eli Lilly has launched its new oral weight-loss drug Foundayo in the United Kingdom (UK), giving people seeking obesity treatment a daily pill alternative to injectable GLP-1 medicines. The UK is the first European country to make the drug available.

As per Reuters, the pill, known chemically as orforglipron, will be available via private prescription after Britain's medicines regulator authorised the drug on August 10, making it the second

GLP-1 tablet to be launched in the UK after Novo Nordisk's Wegovy pill.

As per the company, Foundayo is a once-daily pill for weight loss that can be taken without food or water restrictions. It is designed to support weight management and improve blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes.

  • Take Foundayo exactly as your health care provider suggests
  • It is advisable to use Foundayo with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
  • Foundayo can be taken by mouth 1 time each day, with or without food.
  • Swallow tablets whole. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablet.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. Do not take 2 doses of Foundayo in the same day.
  • Do not take more than 1 tablet per day.
  • If you miss taking Foundayo for 7 or more days in a row, call your health care provider to talk about how to restart your treatment.

What are the common side effects:

The most common side effects include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, indigestion, stomach (abdominal) pain, headache, swollen belly, feeling tired, belching, heartburn, gas, and hair loss.

Foundayo will likely be priced between £100 and £120 ($136 and $164), lower than Lilly's Mounjaro injection's £330 price for a month's supply, Reuters reported.
