A video that went viral on social media that shows singer Sonu Nigam going through a surgical procedure caught the attention of fans, with many worried about the singer's health. Nigam was seen singing a Mohammed Rafi iconic song while lying on an operating table. The unusual moment quickly went viral, leaving many wondering what happened to Sonu Nigam and why he needed surgery.

According to media reports, he underwent a procedure for a recurring growth on his left ring finger. The singer later explained that the growth had returned despite having undergone surgery for the problem in the past.

Nigam sang Mohammed Rafi’s Suhani Raat Dhal Chuki for his doctor and the medical team. He later described the performance as something that happened spontaneously after music was played in the operating room.

What happened to Sonu Nigam’s health?

The latest surgery comes after another health issue that Sonu Nigam spoke about earlier this year. Previously, the singer had revealed that he had been experiencing significant pain because of pinched nerves. He said he had undergone MRI and CT scans and was taking several medications as part of his treatment. He also underwent physiotherapy, which he described as particularly painful.

The singer mentioned that the medication and muscle relaxants had left his throat feeling heavy.

As per NDTV, Dr Nilesh G Satbhai, who operated on Nigam, has confirmed that the lesion was a digital mucous cyst.

What is a digital mucous cyst?

As per the Cleveland Clinic, a myxoid cyst, or digital mucous cyst, is a small, noncancerous bump most often found near a joint at the end of the finger. They’re frequently related to underlying health conditions such as osteoarthritis.

They are a type of ganglion cyst, which is a noncancerous (benign) soft tissue tumor that develops near a joint or tendon.

Treatment procedures:

Usually these cysts shrink on their own. But if the cyst is causing pain, please visit a health expert to check if it is infected. Experts at Cleveland Clinic say surgical removal is the most effective treatment for a digital mucous cyst.
