Fans of actor Ram Charan were relieved after reports confirmed that the star successfully underwent surgery for a right wrist injury sustained while shooting the physically demanding action sequences for Peddi.

"The surgery was super successful. It was a complicated procedure but was managed with precision laparoscopically," HT quoted a source close to the development. The actor underwent the surgery at Coimbatore's Ganga Hospital. Orthopaedic surgeon Dr S Rajasekaran led the surgery. Dr Alejandro Badia from Miami, USA, also joined the surgical team considering the injury's complexity.

Doctors have advised the actor to undergo a rehabilitation program and take ample rest before taking up any work commitments. As per media reports, the actor suffered a wrist cartilage tear during the shoot and has been advised to undergo at least 10 weeks of extensive rehabilitation.

To understand the injury, one needs to know that the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) connects the bones in the forearm with bones in the wrist. The structure, made up of ligaments, tendons, and cartilage, helps support and stabilise the wrist, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

A TFCC tear can result from a sudden impact with symptoms like:

  • Sounds, like clicks or pops, when you rotate your wrist or forearm.
  • Difficulty rotating your wrist.
  • Pain on the ulnar side of your wrist (outside, near the pinky finger).
  • Reduced ability to grip objects tightly.
  • Wrist weakness.

Experts at Cleveland Clinic mentioned that in most cases, surgery can fix severe tears. Most people with TFCC tears regain full function within 12 weeks of surgery.
