In a case of suspected food poisoning, at least 147 girls of a government residential school in Gujarat's Surendranagar district were hospitalised.

According to PTI, 102 girls are being treated at Chuda community health centre, and 45 were referred to two hospitals in Surendranagar. The condition of all the girls are reported to be stable.

"Of the 215 female students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), 147 fell ill due to suspected food poisoning. They experienced symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhoea and vomiting this morning," Chief District Health Officer BG Gohil informed.

According to officials, the students had consumed sabji, bhakhri (wheat roti), khichdi and kheer (rice pudding made with milk) for dinner on Thursday night at the hostel of the residential school. For further investigation into the matter, experts have collected the food samples for analysis.

"A thorough investigation will be conducted. Appropriate action will be taken against the agency responsible for preparing food at the hostel if any lapses are found," Limbdi MLA Kiritsinh Rana told reporters.

Practices like safe food handling are important to prevent food poisoning. This would include cleaning the food item, like vegetables or meat, properly. Keeping the cooking countertop, utensils and surrounding clean matters as well. Ensure the food is cooked properly and separated from uncooked food like raw meat and other similar items. Refrigerate food within two hours post-cooking.
