In a major development, Russian Health Minister Murashko announced the development of a vaccine against a new Ebola strain.

The Russian Embassy in South Africa broke the news on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the vaccine development. According to the Russian scientists, the newly developed vaccine may also protect against the rare Bundibugyo strain linked to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Meanwhile, the test results of a suspected Ebola case from Congo, who was quarantined in Gujarat, turned out to be negative.

Health officials immediately stepped up and carried out the emergency response on noticing the symptoms of the 37-year-old man who had arrived in Vadodara a few days back. Three others who had come in contact with the individual were quarantined, too.

Responding to the rising Ebola cases, the US administration said it is planning to send Americans who are exposed to Ebola while abroad to a new facility in Kenya instead of flying them to the United States.

According to AP, the quarantine and treatment centre being set up by the Departments of Defence, State and Health and Human Services will be designed for Ebola patients who need to get out of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and receive care quickly, said the official, who insisted on anonymity to share the Republican administration's plans. The person said the plan would help patients avoid an hour-long medical evacuation to the US.

According to the United Nations, DRC has reported nearly 1,000 suspected Ebola cases and more than 220 suspected deaths due to the outbreak.
