The researchers at the Centre for Integrative Medicine and Research (CIMR), an initiative by the AIIMS, New Delhi, presented the institute's latest evidence-based research in integrative medicine at THE WEEK Ayush Conclave, held in the national capital on April 18.
CIMR, led by Dr Gautam Sharma, Professor of Cardiology at AIIMS, New Delhi, focuses on generating evidence for Yoga's acceptance as a therapeutic modality in modern medicine and steering CIMR in that direction. It began its mission in 2016, seeking to bridge the gap between contemporary science and India's ancient medical traditions.

In 2024-25, CIMR achieved a milestone with three consecutive high-impact publications, reflecting the Centre’s expanding research footprint across multiple specialities:
* Effectiveness of Yoga Intervention in Reducing Felt Stigma in Adults With Epilepsy: A Randomised Controlled Trial, published in the Journal of Neurology
* Effect of Integrated Yoga as an Add-On Therapy in Adults with Clinical Depression: A Randomised Controlled Trial, published in the International Journal of Social Psychiatry
* Structured Yoga Practices Significantly Improve Quality of Life in Patients with Ulcerative Colitis in Clinical Remission: A Randomised Controlled Trial, published in the Journal of Crohn's and Colitis
In 2026, CIMR continued its research momentum with two important scientific achievements as well. CIMR's systematic review and meta-analysis on the efficacy of 'Yoga for tobacco cessation' was published in the Journal of Nicotine and Tobacco Research and selected as an Editor’s Choice.
Also, the study on the effect of 'Yoga Nidra on sleep disturbances and insomnia' has been accepted for publication in Sleep and Breathing.
These accomplishments further strengthen CIMR’s contribution to preventive medicine, lifestyle disorders, and sleep science.
Entering its next decade, CIMR is expanding its digital footprint with a soon-to-be-launched official website.
