Medical experts are increasingly advocating for moringa-based sanitary pads as a natural, skin-friendly solution to resolve recurring menstrual health issues. Health specialists and gynaecologists opine that these products are designed to lower the incidence of Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs), bacterial vaginosis, and yeast infections—conditions that significantly impact the global health of women.
Moringa, traditionally revered as the "miracle tree," is rich in bioactive compounds. Recent scientific validation confirms its potent antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, making it highly effective for intimate hygiene and period care.
According to Dr Richa Singhal, a senior consultant at Cloudnine Hospital, Delhi, the intimate skin remains in constant contact with pad materials for days. Moringa-infused top-sheets help inhibit the bacterial overgrowth and irritation that typically lead to infections, she was quoted by PTI.
Her observations align with a 2025 study in the journal 'Life', which found that moringa leaf extract offers 2.5 times more anti-inflammatory activity than common pharmaceuticals like diclofenac, but without the side effects of traditional NSAIDs.
Beyond infection control, moringa addresses physical discomfort. Dr Alpna Kansal, President of the IMA Ghaziabad, highlights that the plant's high Vitamin E and fatty acid content strengthens the skin barrier. This is particularly beneficial for students and professionals who wear pads for long hours, as it prevents chafing and maintains a balanced vaginal pH.

Further research suggests moringa’s benefits extend to fighting antibiotic resistance. Dr Alka Kriplani of Paras Health notes that its ability to inhibit both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria—including those responsible for UTIs—could revolutionise menstrual comfort.
While large-scale clinical trials are still ongoing, the combination of Ayurvedic wisdom and modern evidence suggests moringa is a promising step toward safer, more comfortable menstrual hygiene.
