Do you have a Ferrari brain?

Do you know what makes Usain Bolt different from the rest of us? His fast-twitch muscle fibres enable him to do things faster, earlier, better and differently.

So are the owners of Ferrari brains, a genetically blessed lot, with structural and performance differences like those of Usain Bolt's legs.

However, the challenge with the Ferrari brain is the need to understand the functioning and knowing how to 'drive' it optimally, says the Read Clinic Psychology team.

With such a genetic advantage, where the child talks more, reasons more, sleeps less, feels more deeply, has a longer attention span, and a better memory than their peers, this is interpreted as their mental age being way ahead of their chronological age.

This could sometimes lead to crashing their Ferraris, while others drive away to new heights of achievement. They face many roadblocks in their path.

Your ADHD brain is a Ferrari

"Why do I say, 'Your ADHD Brain is a Ferrari?'  My goal is to help people master the power of ADHD while avoiding its pitfalls," says Dr Edward (Ned) Hallowell, a board-certified child and adult psychiatrist.

According to Read Clinic Psychology, research suggests that 60-80 per cent of these brains are working at least two years below their true ability.

"When explaining ADHD to a child, I say, “you have a turbo charged mind – like a Ferrari engine, but the brakes of a bicycle, and I’m the break expert.”   When ADHD is properly treated, the person can achieve great heights: doctors, lawyers, CEO’s, dreamers, innovators, explorers and even Harvard grads," he added.
