Three months into 2025, and as always, many who started hitting the gym in January have likely quit by now. If you're one of them but still want to stay active without the physical or mental strain of an intense routine, ‘Cozy Cardio’ might be just what you need.

What is ‘Cozy Cardio’?

Cozy Cardio is a relaxed, low-intensity approach to exercise that prioritizes comfort and enjoyment over pushing physical limits.

Popularised on TikTok by content creator Hope Zuckerbrow, this health trend advocates performing gentle, low-impact exercises in a homely or cosy environment.

Some Cozy Cardio activities include walking on a treadmill while watching your favourite TV show or movie, light stretching or yoga in a space with soft lighting or candles, or casually dancing to music you love in your living room. A slow bike ride or a leisurely walk, indoors or outdoors, also counts as cozy cardio. The key is to keep it low-pressure and enjoyable, mixing exercise with activities that make you feel good.

The trend took off on TikTok, where influencers began sharing their cozy cardio routines. Soon, it spread to other platforms, moving beyond the TikTok bubble. It particularly resonated with younger women and quickly aligned with a broader cultural shift toward holistic health and "soft living," which emphasizes self-care and enjoyment.

Who will benefit?

Health experts say Cozy Cardio can be especially appealing to beginners who find traditional cardio intimidating. It’s also a great option for those recovering from burnout or needing a break from intense workouts.

Cozy Cardio provides a gentle introduction to exercise without the pressure of high expectations, which experts warn can often lead to low motivation or excuses for not following through. Instead, this approach offers a more practical and sustainable way to ease into a healthy lifestyle. It can also help those whose regular workout routines get interrupted for various reasons.

However, experts caution against getting too comfortable with Cozy Cardio. While consistency is key, they recommend gradually progressing to more challenging exercises over time to continue improving fitness levels.
