Rajinikanth’s 'Jailer 2' has emerged as a major box office force in Kerala, setting new records for a Tamil film. It grossed ₹9 crore in Kerala on Day 3 (Saturday), marking the highest Day 3 gross ever recorded for a Tamil film in Kerala history, completely outnumbering the Saturday hauls of prior blockbusters.
The previous highest third-day record was held by "Leo" (₹7.65 crore).
The cumulative Kerala gross has now reached ₹29.60 crore. This marks the highest 3-day opening collection for any Tamil movie in the state.
"Jailer 2" opened on Day 1 by breaking several records and establishing itself as one of the biggest Tamil film openers in the state. It surpassed Vijay’s "Leo" with a massive opening day.
According to the box office figures provided by Sacnilk, "Jailer 2 "collected approximately ₹12.65 crore to ₹12.70 crore on its opening day, a Thursday. This puts it ahead of "Leo", which earned around ₹12 crore on its first day in Kerala in 2023.
The film’s success was not limited to box office collections. "Jailer 2" also recorded an unprecedented number of shows on its opening day. Reports indicate that around 4,000 shows were scheduled across more than 800 screens in Kerala.
Several single-screen theatres began screenings as early as 6 am to meet the strong demand from fans. The wide theatrical release helped the film reach audiences across the state and contributed to its impressive opening.
"Jailer 2" also reportedly set a new record for hourly ticket sales on BookMyShow. It sold approximately 83,330 tickets in a single hour, narrowly beating Leo’s previous peak of around 82,400 tickets in an hour. This highlights the strong demand for the film among Rajinikanth’s fans and moviegoers.
Another major achievement is the film’s growth compared with its predecessor, "Jailer", released in 2023. The first film collected around ₹5.85 crore on its opening day in Kerala. By comparison, "Jailer 2" opened with approximately ₹12.65 crore to ₹12.70 crore. This represents an increase of more than 115 per cent, based on these figures, showing a significant rise in audience interest in the franchise.
Although "Jailer 2" has claimed the top position among Tamil film openers in Kerala, it has not secured the biggest opening across all languages. That record belongs to the Malayalam blockbuster "Empuraan", which reportedly collected ₹14.07 crore on its opening day. With its estimated ₹12.65 crore to ₹12.70 crore gross, "Jailer 2" ranks second on the all-language opening-day list.
Among Tamil films, the top five opening-day collections are led by "Jailer 2", followed by "Leo" at ₹12 crore, "The Greatest of All Time" at ₹11.50 crore, "Beast" at ₹6.60 crore and "Jailer" at ₹5.85 crore.
