'Thudakkam' OTT release: JioHotstar confirms release date for Vismaya Mohanlal hit

The Malayalam action thriller "Thudakkam", which marked the debut of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal's daughter Vismaya, has officially a streaming date. JioHotstar confirmed that the film will have its OTT release on September 18, 2026. 

Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph and produced by Aashirvad Cinemas, the movie also features the film's producer Antony Perumbavoor's son, Ashish Joe Antony, in the role of the antagonist. Mohanlal also makes a special cameo appearance in the project. Both Vismaya and Joe have fetched considerable praise for their performances.

Released originally in theatres on August 7, 2026, "Thudakkam" has completed a successful five-week theatrical run. During this time, it performed steadily at the box office, ultimately crossing the ₹40 crore milestone globally. Its estimated India net collection stands at ₹21.5 crore, and India gross collection at ₹24.7 crore.

Overseas, it grossed ₹15.9 crore. The final reported worldwide gross is said to be ₹41 crore, and has officially been declared a "hit", considering its reported modest budget of around ₹15 crore.  When you factor in the additional revenue from its non-theatrical assets — specifically its digital streaming deal with JioHotstar — the project is highly profitable.

The film had the advantage of a highly experienced technical team that helped shape its action-heavy, martial arts-oriented narrative, beginning with director Jude Anthany Joseph (who delivered one of Malayalam cinema's biggest hits, "2018", prior to this), who co-wrote the script with Akhil Krishna and Linish Nellikkal.

Music was composed by Jakes Bejoy, while Jomon T. John and Akhil George handled the cinematography, with additional cinematography by Sudeep Elamon. Chaman Chakko edited it.
