'The Odyssey' is now the second-highest grossing R-rated Hollywood film behind 'Deadpool & Wolverine'

The achievement puts "The Odyssey" ahead of "The Dark Knight Rises", which previously held Nolan’s career record with $1.085 billion. It is also the second-highest-grossing movie of 2026, behind "Spider-Man: Brand New Day". The film has reached another major milestone by becoming the second-highest-grossing R-rated movie ever, behind "Deadpool & Wolverine" ($1.33 billion).
Premium formats have played an important role in its success. IMAX screenings alone have generated a record $289.3 million, accounting for roughly 26% of the movie’s worldwide earnings.
The film’s box-office journey is not over. On August 14, 2026, it expanded into mainland China, opening on more than 20,000 screens and giving it another major market for potential growth.
In India, "The Odyssey" has also crossed the ₹200 crore gross mark. It has earned ₹209.57 crore gross, including a net collection of ₹176.21 crore. The film opened strongly, collecting more than ₹60 crore net during its first weekend. Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions have also been important, contributing as much as 30% of its Indian earnings.
In India, "The Odyssey" has now surpassed "Oppenheimer". In 2023, the Cillian Murphy-fronted Oscar-winning blockbuster earned more than ₹150 crore in India and $977 million worldwide. Compared with Nolan’s earlier hits, "The Odyssey" represents his strongest performance yet, both in India and across the global market.
