Nivin Pauly and Kannada actress Rukmini Vasanth ("Sapta Sagaradaache Ello", "Kantara: A Legend - Chapter 1")  are teaming up for the first time for a new Malayalam romantic comedy, tentatively titled NP51. The film officially began production with a switch-on and pooja ceremony held on August 9, 2026.

The project marks Rukmini Vasanth’s official entry into the Malayalam film industry. She has already made a name for herself in Kannada cinema and is now expanding her work into major pan-Indian projects.

NP51 is directed by debutant Nashid Mohamed Famy and is jointly produced by Martin Prakkat Films and Nivin Pauly’s production banner, Pauly Jr Pictures. Actor Aju Varghese, a frequent collaborator of Nivin, will also play an important role in the film.

The production team is expected to announce the film’s official title, complete cast and release plans at a later date.

Before making his directorial debut with NP51, Nashid Famy gained recognition in Malayalam cinema as a screenwriter. One of his most notable credits is the 2022 hit "Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey", which he co-wrote with director Vipin Das. Starring Basil Joseph and Darshana Rajendran, the film combined comedy with sharp commentary on domestic abuse and patriarchal attitudes.

Meanwhile, Nivin Pauly has several interesting projects in his lineup. These include "Bethlehem Kudumba Unit", a romantic comedy with Mamitha Baiju releasing this Onam on August 21; and "Dear Students", a campus drama featuring Nayanthara, which is currently in post-production. He will also star in "Vijayam", his 50th film, directed by Alphonse Puthren in a "Premam" reunion, with Nivin reportedly playing a rugged biker.

Rukmini Vasanth, meanwhile, is awaiting her bigger pan-Indian productions: "Toxic", Geetu Mohandas’ period gangster drama alongside Yash, Kiara Advani and Nayanthara. The film is scheduled to release on August 26, 2026. She also has a crucial role in "Dragon", an action saga directed by Prashanth Neel and starring Jr. NTR and Anil Kapoor, which is scheduled for June 11, 2027.
