Vinoth has said the makers are considering adding six deleted scenes to the theatrical version from next week, a move that could give audiences fresh reasons to return even as the film continues its successful box-office run.

The announcement came during a success meet held in Chennai on Monday, where the director reflected on the making of the film and responded to questions about scenes that had been left out of the final cut.

Confirming that several sequences were removed during editing, Vinoth said, "Yes, there are six scenes that we had deleted. There are two fun (comedy) scenes featuring sir (Vijay), two action scenes and two other emotional scenes."

Asked whether audiences could expect the footage to be added to the version currently playing in theatres, the director said the move would depend on the producers' plans.

"It depends on what production has planned."

When the host suggested that the decision ultimately lay with him, Vinoth replied, "No, I am ready. We will think about adding them from next week or so."

If implemented, cinemas could begin screening an updated version of “Jana Nayagan” as early as next week.

The announcement has prompted speculation over an extended theatrical cut. However, industry observers believe the deleted footage is more likely to be reserved for YouTube or other digital platforms. Adding fresh material to the theatrical version would require the film to undergo certification by the Central Board of Film Certification once again. Given the delays the film faced before release, including certification issues, a digital release may prove to be the more practical option.

At the same time, releasing the deleted scenes separately would allow the makers to sustain interest in what is being billed as Vijay's final film without altering the version already running in theatres.

Released on July 23 after a seven-month delay, “Jana Nayagan” opened to mixed reviews but continues to generate strong box office returns. Much of that performance has been attributed to Vijay's enduring fan base and the significance attached to the project as his final screen appearance.

Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Venkat K. Narayana under the KVN Productions banner, the film was originally slated for release on January 9, before CBFC certification delays prompted a release postponement. In April, the film was also leaked online.

“Jana Nayagan” stars Vijay, Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde and Mamitha Baiju in lead roles, with Nassar, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Narain and Priyamani in supporting roles. The film is a remake of the 2023 Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari.
