After Akshay Kumar, it's now Ajay Devgn's turn to see if he can once again drive footfalls with his latest comedy entertainer, the fourth entry in the "Dhamaal" franchise. The first day registered decent numbers. It opened strong globally with a Rs 21.50 crore collection, as per tracking portal

After Akshay Kumar, it's now Ajay Devgn's turn to see if he can once again drive footfalls with his latest comedy entertainer, the fourth entry in the "Dhamaal" franchise. The first day registered decent numbers. It opened strong globally with a Rs 21.50 crore collection, as per tracking portal Sacnilk. Directed by Indra Kumar and featuring the likes of Jaaved Jaaferi, Arshad Warsi, Sanjay Mishra, Riteish Deshmukh, and Esha Gupta, among others, the movie netted Rs 13.75 crore in India and grossed Rs 16.50 crore.
Interestingly, its global total is marginally higher than Ajay Devgn's "Drishyam 2", which earned Rs 21 crore on Day 1. In terms of the domestic net total, though, "Drishyam 2" was far ahead. However, despite "Dhamaal 4" opening better than some of the actor's recent releases, it slightly fell short of the third movie in the franchise, "Total Dhamaal", which debuted at Rs 16.50 crore in 2019. The domestic shows registered an average occupancy of 24.54%. The bulk of its domestic gross came from the Hindi version.
If we are to compare its performance with similar ensemble comedy franchises from Bollywood, "Dhamaal 4" also fell short of the Day 1 benchmarks set by the last instalments of both the "Housefull" and "Welcome" franchises. Akshay Kumar has, comparatively, a stronger box-office pull given his impressive track record in the comedy genre, even though there were underwhelming examples. However, when we consider examples like "Housefull 5" (Rs 24.35 crore) and "Welcome to the Jungle" (Rs 19.40 crore), "Dhamaal 4" (Rs 21.50 crore) trails them.
