Nearly three decades after their blockbuster collaboration in "Border", Akshaye Khanna and Sunny Deol have come together for a Netflix original. The courtroom drama, with elements of the crime thriller, is directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra and features Dia Mirza and Tillotama Shome as lead female characters. Sanjeeda Shaikh, Shishir Sharma and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor are also part of the cast. Netflix will begin streaming the film on July 10.

As for the story, "Ikka" revolves around an intense legal and moral challenge involving Sunny Deol’s character — a celebrated and revered lawyer — and a mysterious figure from his past, a murder suspect, played by Khanna, whom he is forced to defend. To protect his family and navigate the case, he must bend the rules and play a dangerous game of wits.

In an official statement, Siddharth P Malhotra said, "As a storyteller, I'm always looking for stories that challenge me emotionally and creatively, and 'Ikka' has been one such journey. I've always been a huge fan of courtroom dramas, and ‘Ikka’ is a subject that has been incredibly close to my heart for many years. In fact, it was one of the first stories I ever wanted to bring to the screen."

For Malhotra, it was also an opportunity to tell a courtroom story that "focuses as much on personal relationships and emotional dilemmas as it does on the pursuit of justice. To finally tell this story with a cast of the calibre of Sunny Deol, Akshaye Khanna, Dia Mirza and Tillotama Shome feels truly special."

The fact that Sunny Deol is playing a lawyer again after a long gap is a dream-come-true moment for the filmmaker. "Having Sunny Deol step into the role of a lawyer, a character space audiences have so loved him in, alongside such phenomenal performers, felt like everything coming together at the right time. After the incredible journey of 'Maharaj', it has been wonderful to collaborate with Netflix once again on a film that is deeply emotional, character-driven and rooted in powerful storytelling," he added.

Produced by Siddharth P. Malhotra and Sapna Malhotra under the banner of Alchemy Films, "Ikka" has a script by Althea Kaushal and Mayank Tewari.
