It seems what started as a small indie project is slowly evolving into something bigger. Reports of Alia Bhatt being a part of the upcoming 'Tumbbad' sequel (currently filming), in a cameo, have already been doing the rounds for a while. This role would have a relatively larger presence as the lead of a potential third film, according to a new report.

Bollywood Hungama quotes a production source who shared that Alia is not just doing a cameo but an extended guest appearance. "Alia is doing a 15-day extended cameo in Tumbbad 2, and it's a character that is integral to the overall narrative of the film. That's not all, her character will carry forward in the third part, which is the finale of the Tummbad trilogy. Tumbbad 2 will introduce Alia Bhatt as the central character of Tumbbad 3, alongside Sohum Shah."

The source also revealed that the third film will begin immediately after the second chapter, and that she will finish the 15-day 'Tummbad 2' shoot by the end of May. After this, Alia is expected to proceed with the last schedule of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming epic "Love and War", co-starring Vicky Kaushal and Ranbir Kapoor.

"Tumbbad 2", which also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and acclaimed Malayalam actress Nimisha Sajayan, is directed by Adesh Prasad, unlike the first, which he co-directed with Rahi Anil Barve. Adesh was the co-director, co-writer, and co-producer of the original 2018 film. The sequel is produced by Sohum Shah through his banner Sohum Shah Films and Dhaval Gada, with Dr Jayantilal Gada serving as the presenter.
