Among the few filmmakers working today who are capable of bringing an old-school charm to their storytelling, Anurag Kashyap promises big things with his latest release, "Bandar", the teaser of which was released on May 7, 2026. And what a way to open a teaser, with Bobby Deol evoking the late 1970s/80s disco fever. The first-look glimpse confirms what the official synopsis already hinted at: Deol is playing a character who is seemingly framed for a crime involving a woman.
"TV star Samar's (Bobby Deol) life spirals when his ex Gayatri accuses him of rape after he blocks contact with her. Despite his new relationship with Khushi, he faces arrest and encounters a corrupt justice system," said the official logline.
The footage introduces other confirmed big names from other industries — Indrajith Sukumaran from Malayalam cinema ("Left Right Left", "Kurup") and Raj B. Shetty from Kannada cinema ("Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye", "Su from So"), among others. Judging by what we saw in the teaser, they are possibly playing Deol's inmates in prison after he is arrested. It also hints at Sanya Malhotra's character being the sister of Deol's character.
"Bandar" has been confirmed for a theatrical release on June 5. Kashyap's last theatrical release was "Nishaanchi - Part 1", with the follow-up released directly on Prime Video.
"Paatal Lok" writers Abhishek Banerjee and Sudip Sharma wrote "Bandar", which is bankrolled by actor-producer Nikhil Dwivedi under the banner Saffron Magicworks, jointly with Zee Studios.
The film had its world premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2025.
