After announcing an original May 22 release date, the makers of Anurag Kashyap's new film "Bandar" have shared a new official date.
The Bobby Deol-starrer will now hit theatres on June 5 — a day after Yash's much-anticipated "Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups" hits theatres.
Interestingly, the filmmakers of both films — Geetu Mohandas and Anurag Kashyap — had worked together on the screenplay of the Malayalam film "Moothon" (starring Nivin Pauly).
Written by Abhishek Banerjee and Sudip Sharma, who have collaborated on "Paatal Lok", the film has an interesting array of cast members such as Indrajith Sukumaran (Malayalam actor known for his appearances in "Lucifer" and "Amen"), Sanya Malhotra, Kannada actor Raj B Shetty ("Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana", "Ondu Motteya Kathe"), Sapna Pabbi, and Saba Azad, among others.
"Bandar" made its world premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last year, in September.
What is the film about? The IMDb official logline says, "TV star Samar's (Deol) life spirals when his ex Gayatri accuses him of rape after he blocks contact with her. Despite his new relationship with Khushi, he faces arrest and encounters a corrupt justice system."
Actor-producer Nikhil Dwivedi is producing "Bandar" under the banner Saffron Magicworks, which also produced Vikramaditya Motwane's last film "CTRL" (starring Ananya Panday) in association with Zee Studios.
Kashyap's recent releases include the two-part gangster saga "Nishaanchi" (streaming on Prime Video) and the Rahul Bhat-starrer "Kennedy" (streaming on Zee5).
The thought of Bobby Deol teaming up with Anurag Kashyap comes with much promise since the filmmaker seems perfect for an actor of his calibre. Deol has been lately seen in serious, performance-oriented roles in films such as "Class of '83", "Love Hostel" and "Animal", in addition to his stellar turn in Aryan Khan's Netflix series "The B***ds of Bollywood".
