Box office: 'Vaazha 2' slows down on third Monday, trails behind 'Lokah' second-week collection; Malayalam sequel now eyes 'Manjummel Boys' lifetime gross

The India gross of "Vaazha 2" stands at Rs 126.29 crore. The worldwide total gross is registered at Rs 209.64 crore. However, it has earned more than its original on Day 19

The Malayalam coming-of-age sequel "Vaazha 2: Biopic of a Billion Bros" showed a major dip in earnings and occupancy on its third Monday (Day 19). It raked in Rs 2.05 crore, resulting in a 52.3% drop from the third Sunday's Rs 4.30 crore gross, as per Sacnilk's box office data.

However, this number is better than what the first "Vaazha: Biopic of a Billion Boys" earned on its 19th day: Rs 0.30 crore.

The India gross of "Vaazha 2" stands at Rs 126.29 crore, from 1,105 shows. Its India net earnings come up to Rs 109.20 crore.

With its total overseas gross now at Rs 83.35 crore, the worldwide total gross is registered at Rs 209.64 crore.

In terms of second-week earnings, "Vaazha 2" has crossed the Rs 40 crore mark. In the Malayalam film industry, earning that figure (or more) within the second week alone (India net) is an exceptional feat achieved only by all-time blockbusters. While many films reach this as a cumulative total by the end of week two, very few have earned that amount specifically during the seven days of their second week.

"Vaazha 2" earned more than Mohanlal's "Thudarum" (approx. Rs 35.35 crore) in its second week alone, but trailed behind "Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra". Currently, the Kalyani Priyadarshan-starrer holds the record for the biggest second-week only performance in Mollywood history. It earned roughly Rs 47 crore in domestic net earnings during the seven-day second week period.

The Malayalam coming-of-age sequel now aims for the lifetime gross of "Manjummel Boys" (approx. Rs 242.3 crore). "Vaazha 2" needs another Rs 34.34 crore to surpass the former, and it is expected to earn that by the end of its month-long theatrical run, if not earlier.

In its home territory, the Kerala box office, "Vaazha 2" has already outperformed "Manjummel Boys", becoming the third Malayalam film ever to cross Rs 100 crore in Kerala alone.

It reached the Rs 200 crore milestone in just 17 days, faster than "Manjummel Boys" (19 days) and "2018". It is currently the 5th highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, having recently surpassed "2018".
