As the "Vaazha" sequel ("Vaazha II: Biopic of Billion Bros) continues its box office rampage in Kerala, the makers have already started moving ahead with the third part. Interestingly, this time the script will focus on an all-female cast, following the trend of casting newcomers and encouraging new talents behind the scenes.
Filmmaker Vipin Das ("Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey") will write the script for the third film, too.
Debutant Viswan Sreejith, who worked as assistant director to Vipin Das on "Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil" and handled the same duty on both the "Vaazha" films, will make his directorial debut with "Vaazha 3: Biopic of a Billion Girls".
In an exclusive conversation with THE WEEK, co-producer Harris Desom, who also co-produced the original "Vaazha" and "Jo & Jo", said, "As producers, what we are thinking is that we managed to create such a success with newcomers. That was the case with 'Vaazha', 'Vaazha 2' and 'Jo & Jo' as well — no big stars. We were very confident about that and put in so much effort," he said, adding that they hope to bring in more talented writers and actors through these projects.
Does this mean there will be more films after the third? "Yes, it's going to be a franchise," adds Harris. "Be it 4 or 5, the intention is to bring new people, including the technicians and actors. We aim to create new stars."
Meanwhile, "Vaazha 2" has already grossed a total of Rs 95 crore in domestic gross and Rs 80 crore in net figures.
In a social media post, Vipin Das shared a note expressing thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the “Vaazha” films, along with the teaser poster. While announcing that production will begin in 2027, he wrote: “The Vaazha franchise has grown into something far bigger than we ever imagined. We launched Vaazha with the intention of introducing fresh talent to cinema, and we are committed to carrying that legacy forward in all future chapters. This is the only franchise where the door is always open, whether you want to write, direct, act, or compose. While the title and the audience remain our constant pillars, the faces in front of and behind the camera will always represent the next generation of cinema.”
He also informed that open auditions will be announced only after the script is locked. “Please hold off on sending portfolios or work samples for now,” he added.
Headlined by content creators-turned-actors Hashir H., Alan Bin Siraj, Ajin Joy, and Vinayak V, “Vaazha 2” was produced by Vipin Das, Harris Desom, Sahu Garapati, P. B. Anish, Adarsh Narayan, and Icon Studios.
The film has already grossed a total of Rs 95+ crore in domestic gross and Rs 80+ crore in net figures. Worldwide, it has crossed Rs 160+ crore.
