Almost a year after its theatrical release, Aamir Khan's "Sitaare Zameen Par" is finally coming to streaming, this time on a subscription model. It will premiere on SonyLIV from April 3, 2026.
Prior to this, the movie, directed by R.S. Prasanna, and featuring Genelia Deshmukh as the female lead, was released on a pay-per-view model on YouTube and Google Play Movies.
Released in theatres on June 20, 2025, "Sitaare Zameen Par" is an official adaptation of the 2018 Spanish-language film "Campeones" (English: Champions), directed by Javier Fesser, which revolved around an ill-mannered coach who has to coach a basketball team consisting of players with intellectual disabilities.
In its review of the film, THE WEEK wrote that "in terms of craft and storytelling approach, it's a far cry from 'Taare Zameen Par' (2007). But SZP is not trying to be the same film. It's quite evident it was made to appeal to family audiences who want a good time. There are places where the intent is to make us sympathetic to the characters that Gulshan is assigned to train as punishment for a drunk driving case, but what's most admirable here is there's no attempt to portray them as pathetic losers. It even breaks a particular cliche we usually see in mainstream sports dramas."
