Ryan Coogler's "Sinners" and Paul Thomas Anderson's "One Battle After Another" took home the top prizes at the Writers Guild of America Awards. This concludes the final guild awards as the industry and audiences look forward to the big event — the Oscars! — next Sunday.
“Sinners”, which has already secured wins at the Critics’ Choice Awards and the National Board of Review, was named Best Original Screenplay, overtaking "Marty Supreme".
Meanwhile, Paul Thomas Anderson’s "One Battle After Another" — a film that has already earned accolades at the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs — was honoured with Best Adapted Screenplay, beating out "Hamnet", "Bugonia", "Frankenstein", and "Train Dreams".
Both "Sinners" and "OBAA" are being seen as the two frontrunners expected to win big at the Oscars, as all the major awards wins so far have been historically considered indicators for high Oscar chances.
Meanwhile, the television awards were dominated by "The Pitt" — for Best Drama Series, New Series, and Individual Episode.
"The Studio" was named Best Comedy Series, while "The Righteous Gemstones" was acknowledged for its “Prelude” episode.
In the limited series category, "Dying for Sex" triumphed, notably in a year when the widely celebrated "Adolescence" didn't even get nominated.
