Hours after Sangeetha Sornalingam’s affidavit seeking an interim order for “right of residence” at her matrimonial home was leaked to the media, former actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay chose to break his silence.

Speaking among his party's women workers at a TVK event celebrating International Women’s Day, Vijay said that the divorce petition filed by his wife—in which she sought an interim order to live in her matrimonial home—was “not worth it".

He added that he would take care of it and asked his party cadres not to get hurt.

“About the recent problems, I have seen you people fighting and getting hurt. I will take care of that problem. Focus on the people and the issues. Don't get hurt unnecessarily. It is not worth it,” Vijay said, not mentioning the name of his wife Sangeetha, or her allegations in the divorce petition over an alleged extramarital affair with a leading actress.

Vijay’s reply got an electrifying response from the women cadres in the auditorium. Over the past two days, Tamil social media platforms have been filled with TVK’s keyboard warriors trying to defend Vijay's alleged relationship with the actress.

His supporters, who were putting out several social media posts against Sangeetha for the past few days, were later seen looking for other ways to defend the actor-politician when he appeared at a wedding party with his actress friend, Trisha Krishnan.

Several memes and posts in favour of and against Vijay have propped up over the past four days, making Vijay and his personal life the central point of discussion. However, Vijay’s cursory statement on Saturday is expected to put an end to all the social media posts discussing his personal life.
