In what has come as a sensational development, actor-politician Vijay's wife Sangeetha Sornalingam filed for divorce at the Chengalpattu family court on Friday (February 27). The primary reason cited by Sangeetha's counsel in the divorce application was regarding Vijay's extramarital affair with a popular actress in Kollywood.
According to Sangeetha's complaint, there are no details about the 'actress' or the timeline of the alleged affair. However, the complaint does reveal that Sangeetha was aware of Vijay's affair in 2021, following which there were attempts made from her side to repair the relationship.
Ever since the divorce news became public, the internet has been buzzing over who the 'actress' might be. The most common name floating around is renowned actress Trisha Krishnan who has previously starred in multiple films with Vijay, with Leo (2023) being the most recent of the lot.
In fact, speculations of a potential Vijay-Trisha relationship have been seen on social media websites for a few years now, although there has obviously been no strong proofs of this. However, a lot of Trisha's posts about Vijay, including birthday wishes and some of her photographs with him outside movie sets had sparked speculations much before the divorce petition was filed.
According to a post on Reddit, Vijay and Trisha were linked during 2003-05 when they appeared in films like Ghilli (2004), Thirupaachi (2004), Aathi (2006) and Kuruvi (2008). After that, the duo didn't work together in a film till Leo. According to Reddit, this gap was allegedly due to a breakdown in their relationship with some sources even hinting at possible intervention from Vijay's family.
These allegations, though, seem contradictory as Sangeetha's complaint mentions the timeline to be 2021 when she got to know of the alleged affair. Also, she states that Vijay had initially promised to end things at the earliest but then chose to act in the extreme opposite manner, something that virtually ended the relationship.
However, Trisha's posts on social media about her personal life, albeit more of hints and teasers, have been enough for netizens to establish a potential link with Vijay. In 2022, Trisha reportedly went on a 'solo trip' to New York but posted a photo that featured just the shoes of two people. A full-size image of it surfaced later and it had Vijay with Trisha.
There have been multiple other solo trips of Trisha where she had put up updates of being romantically involved with someone. Her presence at certain events like Varisu's special screening and also attended a private party later. For Leo's success party, Trisha allegedly came down from abroad, specifically to attend the event.
Another notable development is a ring that Trisha has been flaunting since 2022, raising speculations of having somebody special in her life. Neither Trisha nor Vijay has mentioned anything about their relationship, but a lot of the veteran actress' social media activity and personal updates have had too much coincidence around them.
Meanwhile, there had been multiple reports of a potential rift between Vijay and Sangeetha since 2020. Once a regular attender of Vijay's film functions, Sangeetha has been absent over the last few years. She has also not taken part in Vijay's political activities or endorsed them in any way.
With the divorce petition becoming public, we now know that one half of Vijay's personal life is true. Whether he has been having an affair with a leading actress and if that's Trisha or not is something that we can only speculate for now. Perhaps, we could get clarity on this issue in the coming weeks. For now, social media is relentless in its trolls for Trisha and her updates.
