What do Dhurandhar (2025) and Congress MP Karti Chidambaram have in common? A cameo, as netizens have been claiming on social media for the past few weeks.

However, the Congress MP on Sunday rejected claims that he and his father, former Union Minister P. Chidambaram, secretly acted in Aditya Dhar's blockbuster film.

“If people can mix up fact, fiction and WhatsApp forwards, what can I do? If you really think it happened, shouldn’t the Government of India have some records?" he said in a podcast with ANI

"With AI, it’s only going to get worse,” he added.

What was the scene about?

Caution: there are spoilers for Dhurandhar (2025) ahead.

When Hamza (Ranveer Singh) learns that Major Iqbal's (Arjun Rampal) counterfeit currency operation involved Indian notes as well, he passes on this information to IB Chief Ajay Sanyal (R. Madhavan).

As Sanyal and his aide discuss how Pakistan got a hold of Indian currency plates for counterfeit notes, a cameo flashback appears, in which the Union minister they discussed was involved in the crime is shown on-screen handing over the plates to the Pakistani officials.

Netizens felt it was the actors in this scene that resembled Karti Chidambaram and his father.

"In this scene too, they have presented Chidambaram & his son is such an obscure way that they cannot file a case for defamation yet those who are aware, they cannot file totally understand the scene and who the characters are," a Redditor alleged.

"The film does not name the minister explicitly, but it heavily implies—through context, timing (linked to UPA-era decisions around 2008, near the 26/11 attacks), and the "minister and his son" detail—that it alludes to former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram," another Redditor claimed.

"Dude, that whole bit in Dhurandhar ... has Zero evidence anywhere," a third Redditor said, dismissing the others' claims.

The Congress MP also said that he had not yet watched the film either.

"I’ve also been told it’s a three-hour-long movie. So maybe on my multiple flights, I’ll watch it. I hope the producer had called me and asked me who they should cast in my cameo. I would’ve given some suggestions,” he joked.
