It's a dull Friday for Bollywood as the major release of the week, O'Romeo, is off to a weak start at the domestic box office. The Shahid Kapoor starrer had a lot of work done on its promotions but that hasn't translated into solid buzz at the ticket counters. Shahid's previous films with director Vishal Bhardwaj were all critically acclaimed but only Kaminey was a success.

The morning shows were very poor for O'Romeo as the film had under 10 percent occupancy across India on an average. Things did improve in the matinee shows but not by much. O'Romeo reported an occupancy of 10-15 percent during the afternoon shows, which is below average for a film of this scale.

It might not seem like it but O'Romeo does have a reasonable amount involved as its budget. Ideally, a double-digit opening was needed for the film and possibly, a weekend of Rs 30-35 crore nett. However, early estimates suggest that the opening day for O'Romeo is hovering around Rs 5-6 crore nett.

If the evening and night shows better growth, O'Romeo could go past Rs 7-8 crore nett but that is about the best it can do. Initial reports are mixed and the word-of-mouth isn't encouraging for a film of this genre. Shahid's performance, as always, is getting accolades but viewers aren't syncing with the overall mood of the film.

Shahid Kapoor's last two films, Deva (Rs 5.75 crore nett) and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (Rs 6.50 crore nett) both opened to similar numbers at the box office. Now, O'Romeo is following a fairly similar pattern and all this indicates a very rough patch for Shahid who hasn't delivered a major success in years.
