Border 2 is creating havoc at the ticket counters. After a reasonably strong opening day and stronger second day, the film has gone into overdrive from Sunday onwards. The third day saw Border 2 go past the Rs 50 crore nett mark for the first time and it will be repeated on Monday too with chances of registering a bigger day than Sunday.

After Rs 30 crore nett on the first day and Rs 35 crore nett on the second day, Border 2 registered collections in the vicinity of Rs 52-53 crore nett on Sunday. Early estimates on Monday suggest a jump of 10-15 percent from the morning shows itself. The Republic Day flavour is perfect for Border 2 to cash in, given the patriotic theme of the film and the public is storming the theatres to enjoy the film.

The afternoon and evening shows on Sunday were at about 75-80 percent occupancy and we could see the same for Monday as well. If anything, we could see the occupancy levels going up a tad higher too. The real test will come in the night shows with rain and winter both being an obstacle, especially in the interiors.

However, the kind of momentum Border 2 has gained, it seems likely that the Rs 55 crore nett mark will be breached comfortably on Republic Day and the question will be whether it can touch the Rs 60 crore mark. If the night shows sustain like they did on Sunday night, there is every chance of it happening.

The four-day extended weekend for Border 2 is looking at a monstrous figure of Rs 175 crore nett or thereabouts. It is an earth-shattering start for the war drama and with the way the mass belts are responding, a BLOCKBUSTER long run is guaranteed for Border 2 although the Ramadan effect could dim its fortunes a bit from mid-February. However, it would have churned out massive numbers by then already.
