Popular Bengali singer and influencer Debolina Nandy is still in hospital after surviving a suicide attempt on Sunday, as per her mother, sister, and TMC MLA Madan Mitra, who have offered important updates on her condition.
Her sister, Sharmistha Biswas, told ETV Bharat that Debolina was "doing better now", but was still in a "state of trauma".
"Various comments and posts on social media are creating a negative impact on her mind ... I have tried to motivate her. She is getting upset when she sees various posts and comments ... So I am trying to keep her away from the phone," Sharmistha said.
When asked about her condition, Sharmistha explained that it would take some time to properly get the medicines out of Debolina's system.
Questions are also being raised as to how the medical shop even allowed her to buy the large quantity of sleeping pills that she had later used to attempt suicide.
Debolina had been hospitalised after she had attempted suicide just moments after a Facebook livestream on Sunday, in which she was visibly traumatised about her family issues.
"I tried a lot but I couldn't do it anymore," she had said at the end of the livestream.
Debolina's mental health crisis was reportedly caused due to tensions with her husband Probaho Nandy and his family, who had allegedly urged her to cut off contact with her mother.
The prolific singer, who has songs on most major platforms, reportedly shares a deep bond with her mother.
Yet, her sister Sharmistha had also told ETV Bharat that Debolina still loved him, and wanted to start a family with him.
According to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Madan Mitra, who had visited Debolina on Wednesday, said that she was fine, but needed to de-stress, citing the doctor.
He also remained silent on Probaho, and said that he had advised her to keep her phone away, and her mind clear of the social media chatter around her suicide attempt and family relationships.
Neither Probaho, nor his side of the family, have reportedly contacted her yet.
Debolina's mother also declined to comment on Probaho, saying that the decision to return to her in-laws was the singer's personal choice.
