Vijay's cinematic career is drawing to a conclusion with his final film Jana Nayagan that is slated to release on Friday (January 9) in the festive Pongal season. This window has historically been a lucrative release period for Vijay and Kollywood's Thalapathy will want to sign off on a high before he commits full time to politics.
The advance booking trends for Jana Nayagan are strong and with five more days left for release, the numbers are expected to spike dramatically with each passing day. Currently, the H Vinoth directorial has crossed Rs 25 crore in pre-sales globally for the opening day alone. This is a fantastic start and indicates another bumper opening day for Vijay.
The overseas pre-sales have clocked $2.12 million which amounts to Rs 19 crore roughly. Meanwhile, the bookings in India have touched Rs 6 crore and this is without Tamil Nadu where the film is yet to open its advance booking. With Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi slated for a January 10 release, distributors and theatre owners are still having debates regarding screen allocation and showcounts for both films.

Generally, big films open their advance booking at least seven days before the release date as it gives enough time for the momentum and ticket sales to build. Jana Nayagan has also followed suite except in the main market TN where confusion still prevails over the screencounts for the two main Pongal releases.
An opening day of Rs 100 crore is a bare minimum and the only question is how much higher it can go. The trailer of Jana Nayagan released on January 3 and comparisons are on with Nandamuri Balakrishna's Bhagavanth Kesari. There are unconfirmed reports of Jana Nayagan being a remake of Bhagavanth Kesari. Vinoth has neither denied nor accepted these claims, although the trailer does give hints of the truth.
