Aditya Dhar's spy action thriller Dhurandhar, featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead, got off to a decent start as it released across 5,000 screens on Friday. This comes despite mixed reviews from the critics and audience.
Dhurandhar raked in Rs 27.04 crore in net domestic collection till 9 pm, according to early estimates by Sacnilk.
Trade analysts had initially predicted that Dhurandhar may collect up to Rs 20 crore in net domestic collection by the end of the day. However, with the latest figures, film's final Day 1 figures could cross Rs 30 crore.
The biggest opening in Bollywood this year was recorded by Chhaava at Rs 31 crore, followed by Saiyaara at Rs 21.5 crore. Now that the Ranveer Singh starrer has surpassed Saiyaara figures, it remains to be seen if it can beat the collections of Chhaava when the final figures are out on Saturday.
The morning shows saw an occupancy of 24.82 per cent while the afternoon shows witnessed 39.58 per cent seats filled.
The film, which was produced at whopping budget of Rs 280 crore, did not do well in the advance bookings. Sacnilk recorded the final advance booking for Day 1 at Rs 9.23 crore. This does not include blocked seats, which contributed another Rs 4.5 crore.
The cast of the movie includes Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi. Dhurandhar, which is set in Lyari, Pakistan, is inspired by real-life incidents, including Operation Lyari.
The film received an A certificate from the censor board because of its gory violence. It was released with a finalised runtime of 214 minutes.
