The festivities of Diwali are long done but Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat continues to rule the roost at the domestic box office. While many expected Thamma to be the festival winner, it is Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat that is clearly the only box office success among the Diwali Bollywood releases. Thamma, however, will end up with a bigger worldwide gross but it will not be a success due to higher costs.
Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat had a terrific second weekend as it collected Rs 10 crore nett in India with superb trending across the three days. Sunday's numbers would have been bigger if not for the Women's World Cup final that clashed with the prime time shows of the film. Nevertheless, the weekend numbers were still very impressive.
On its 14th day, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is once again rock-solid at the box office with no noticeable drop in occupancy from its second Friday. There will, however, be a variation in ticket prices and that will mean a lower collection. As per early estimates, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is heading for about Rs 1.5-2 crore nett.
That would take the 14-day India nett collections to around Rs 71 crore nett and gross of approximately Rs 85 crore. Given its solid trending, it should have the legs to go past the Rs 100 crore gross mark at the domestic box office. With a reported production budget of Rs 25 crore, this romantic drama starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa is a certain SUPERHIT at the box office.
Overseas, the film has collected around Rs 11.50 crore and the worldwide gross of the film after 15 days should be around Rs 97 crore.
