Pranav Mohanlal's Dies Irae is on a roll at the box office. The horror thriller directed by Rahul Sadasivan has taken a sensational start at the box office and has set a new benchmark in box office history.
Dies Irae has recorded an opening day of above Rs 10 crore worldwide including the paid previews on October 30. This is an earth-shattering start for a film of this genre. It also the biggest opening for an A-rated film in Malayalam cinema's box office history. The previous record was with Unni Mukundan's Marco.
The audience feedback for Dies Irae is extremely positive and it means that a phenomenal opening weekend is on the cards. Sadasivan's previous film Bramayugam ended its theatrical run with a worldwide gross of Rs 30 crore. Dies Irae could cover that in its opening weekend itself.
Dies Irae is also Pranav's second film to get a double-digit opening day at the worldwide box office. Apart from his father Mohanlal and Mammootty, this feat has only been achieved by Dulquer Salmaan. Mohanlal is the actor with most double-digit opening day at the global box office as six of his films have managed to achieve this milestone.
Going by the trends, Dies Irae is also certain to cross Rs 50 crore globally and that would make it a hat-trick of Rs 50 crore grossers for Pranav. Hridayam and Varshangalkku Shesham were his other films to get to this milestone. Only Mohanlal has achieved this feat among Malayalam actors and he also did it this year.
