Telugu star Teja Sajja's superhero fantasy spectacle Mirai will be hitting streaming nearly a month after its theatrical release. The big-budget feature, which released on the big screen on September 12, will be hitting JioHotstar on October 10.
The movie, which draws inspiration from mythology and folklore, has Teja Sajja playing a common man who is chosen as 'The One', someone destined to be a protector of nine sacred scriptures of Emperor Ashoka. Manoj Manchu plays the principal antagonist Mahabir Lama, leader of The Black Sword, the group that's after the same scriptures for the purpose of executing their nefarious plans.
Mirai met with mixed reactions in theatres, with some viewers praising it as a must-watch experience while others finding it underwhelming, and even questioning the veracity of the positive responses. However, the reactions largely leaned toward the positive side, with critics, trade analysts, and notable Telugu cinema industry figures waxing eloquent about its merits.
Written and directed by Karthik Gattamneni, the movie revolves around myths and legends, and features Teja Sajja, Manchu Manoj, Jagapathi Babu, Jayaram, and Shriya Saran, among others. Mirai features special appearances from Rana Daggubati as a negative character who appears towards the end, hinting that he could be playing the principal antagonist of a potential follow-up. Prabhas has a voice role as the narrator. Mirai, which was shot by Gattamneni himself, was edited by veteran Sreekar Prasad.
Teja Sajja is known for the movies Zombie Reddy and Hanu-Man. The latter was one of the biggest box office hits of 2024.
