Pawan Kalyan is known for his massive openings in Telugu states, irrespective of the genre or his form at the box office. His latest film, They Call Him OG, has continued the trend with an earth-shattering start at the ticket windows across the globe. The action thriller, directed by Sujeeth, has garned mixed reviews upon release but has still managed rake in an astounding figure of Rs 228 crore worldwide in the four-day weekend.
They Call Him OG is comfortably Kalyan's biggest opener of all time and trends suggest that it will also become his highest grosser as well. Whether the film will be able to be profitable for its makers and distributors is another matter altogether. Nevertheless, the huge opening weekend shows that Kalyan's stardom is intact and it is only a matter of getting the right content to set box office benchmarks. After a strong opening day, They Call Him OG saw big drops everywhere, especially in Telangana where the film has fallen flat across the board. However, the collections in Andhra Pradesh has ensured that the overall AP/TG numbers have stayed steady across the weekend.
They Call Him OG registered almost similar collections on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Telugu states with the trends not looking good for a long run. The pattern was similar all across India with Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala all being similar in terms of the box office progress. The plus point for the film is that another set of holidays are incoming with Dussehra and October 2 falling midweek but the big release in Kantara: Chapter 1 will severely dent the screen count of They Call Him OG everywhere, including the Telugu states. That means that unless the film shows a remarkable hold in its collections, it is unlikely to attain HIT status.
