Production has officially commenced for the third instalment of the Drishyam film series from Malayalam. Mohanlal, who is reuniting with director Jeethu Joseph to reprise his character Georgekutty, announced the news officially on his social media feed along with pictures.
In a recent conversation at the Manorama News Conclave, filmmaker Jeethu Joseph said he is going for a different approach with Drishyam 3, adding that he envisioned the events in the third film in such a way that they happen "naturally" to Georgekutty's family. "Audiences will get it when they see the film," said Jeethu.
"It will be apparent to viewers that I did not do it for the money. In fact, I've conveyed the same to Antony (producer). There may arise a possibility for a fourth film, but I don't have the idea with me yet," he further added.

While reflecting on the conception of Drishyam 2, Jeethu said it was the film's climax that came to him first. Drishyam 3, too, he implies, was conceived the same way. "While lunching with Lalettan after a screening of Drishyam 2, he asked me about the possibility of a third film. When I told him the climax I had in mind, he loved it," recalled the director who made his debut in 2007 with Detective.
Jeethu's most recent film, Mirage, starring Asif Ali and Aparna Balamurali, is currently running in theatres.
Meanwhile, the Korean remake of the first Drishyam film will be helmed by Deok Roh (also Deok Noh), with production set to commence next year. Memories of Murder and Parasite actor Song Kang-ho is one of the producers associated with Anthology Studios, aside from Korean director Kim Jee-woon ("I Saw the Devil", "A Bittersweet Life"), and production executive Choi Jae-won.
Mohanlal recently was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke award, the country's highest honour, for his contributions to the Indian film industry.
