It's party time for Dulquer Salmaan and his production house Wayfarer Films as their latest venture Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra continues to set new benchmarks at the box office. The film entered into the elite Rs 200 crore club on its 13th day, becoming only the fourth film from Mollywood to achieve the feat after Manjummel Boys, Empuraan and Thudarum. With the film continuing to do well in Kerala, Rest of India and overseas, it could only be a matter of time before it dethrones Empuraan as Mollywood's all-time worldwide grosser. At the end of two weeks, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has grossed Rs 72 crore from Kerala while it's 13-day collections from ROI and overseas are a cumulative Rs 134 crore. The overseas collections alone have amounted to $10.77 million!
One key factor behind the exceptional overseas performance of the film has been the fantasy action genre that has worked big time in its favour. While the content has to click for a film to thrive globally, this genre does have a universal appeal to it across all countries. In Germany, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has stormed into the all-time top-ten for Indian films, overtaking Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 to take the ninth spot in the list. Empuraan, which is ranked sixth in the list, is the highest Mollywood earner in the country with Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra having an outside chance of eclipsing those numbers.
Apart from these two films and Vijay's Lokesh Kanagaraj-directorial Leo, the remaining seven films in the top 10 are all Bollywood films, of which four are Shah Rukh Khan-starrers. The all-time topper, however, is the Irrfan Khan-starrer The Lunch Box, which was also dubbed into German. It is also the only film to breach €1 million in the country.
