The Rajinikanth-Lokesh Kanagaraj collaboration 'Coolie' is inching closer to the ₹70 crore collection mark in India on its second day, according to data. The Tamil action entertainer had collected ₹65 crore on the first day and is said to have managed ₹4.49 crore after morning shows on Friday—its second day.
Initial data from Sacnilk showed that the Tamil version of the Rajinikanth movie had collected ₹45 crore, while the Hindi-dubbed version came in second by garnering ₹4.5 crore. It is likely that 'Coolie' will break the ₹100 crore mark today. Sacnilk had yet to release information on the movie's overseas collections at the time this report was compiled.
The Tamil screens began morning shows with 81.95% occupancy, which rose to 85.13% for the afternoon shows and then to 86.57% in the evening. The occupancy peaked at 94.32% for the night shows. Chennai alone witnessed the much-anticipated movie getting 639 shows on Day 1. The night shows were 99% full, Sacnilk claimed.
The Telugu audience too, embraced the drama despite the mixed reviews. The morning shows saw an occupancy of 91.25%, which slightly increased to 93.01% for the afternoon shows. The evening shows had a slight dip to 89.01%, but the occupancy peaked at 95.12% for the night shows. Despite 'War 2' releasing on the same day, the Rajini swag was attracting decent crowds even in the Hindi-speaking states, the data showed.
