Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara opened on July 18 to big numbers and frenzied reactions in theatres and on social media. The Yash Raj Films-backed romantic drama, which struck a deep emotional chord with audiences, especially with younger viewers, is expected to hit Netflix on September 12, 2025 — almost two months after its theatrical release.
While there has not been an official announcement on the same from YRF, an Instagram story reposted by the film's casting director, Shanoo Sharma, seems to hint that the film will indeed hit streaming on the aforementioned date. The makers are expected to make the date official soon.
A surprise blockbuster, Saiyaara turned out to be the second-biggest Hindi hit of the year after Chhaava, with a first-week box office total of ₹250 crore globally (₹172 crore, domestically). The film now sits comfortably above Aashaqui 2, also directed by Suri.
As per trade figures, the film's worldwide gross now totals ₹ 541 crore on a budget of ₹ 45 crore.
Both Saiyaara and Aashiqui 2 have been subject to comparison since they both revolve around a troubled musician. Saiyaara, much like Aashiqui 2, stars debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. The 2013 flick featured Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, both of whom got catapulted into fame after the film’s release.
A worthy successor to 'Aashiqui 2'
So what is it about a little hyped silver screen romance that came out of nowhere and has shaken up a generation that seemed to be too jaded to care for anything beyond the momentary virality on their timeline?
In the film, the two protagonists, Amaan (played by Ahaan Panday) and Zoya (Aneet Padda), discover love amidst turmoil.
Not hesitating to lay bare the dark side of love, this film is notable for its emotional depth and unvarnished honesty. It’s not a glossy fairy tale, but a reflection of love at its most vulnerable.
And the young are lapping up Saiyaara’s brutal honesty, despite some critics claiming it romanticises suffering.
