A new cinematic universe in Malayalam! Dulquer Salmaan unveils teaser of 'Lokah: Chapter One - Chandra'

After Minnal Murali, a new cinematic superhero universe from Malayalam is shaping up, with the backing of Dulquer Salmaan and his company Wayfarer Films. Recently, the makers released a first look poster of Lokah: Chapter One - Chandra, headlined by Kalyani Priyadarshan, who is playing a character named Chandra, a superhero with lightning fast speed, leading the first part of a planned multi-part saga akin to Brahmastra from Hindi cinema.

On Monday, July 28, Dulquer released the first teaser in which we see a big-scale adventure where myth becomes real. "All legends have an element of truth," says its caption. The makers are aiming for a release in time for this year's Onam holidays.

Aside from Kalyani Priyadarshan, for whom a part of this magnitude is a first, the film also features actors Naslen ("Premalu"), Chandu Salimkumar ("Manjummel Boys"), Arun Kurian, Santhy Balachandran, Vijayaraghavan, Nishanth Sagar, and Raghunath Paleri among others.

Written and directed by Dominic Arun, with additional screenplay and dramaturgy by Santhy Balachandran, the films are said to be inspired by Kerala's popular folklore and fantastical stories, in addition to popular comic book adventures.

There's also a buzz of Dulquer Salmaan and Tovino Thomas appearing alongside the above actors.

The project, which is Wayfarer Films' seventh production, has Nimish Ravi ("Kurup", "Lucky Bhaskar") as the director of photography and Chaman Chakko handling editing duties. Jakes Bejoy is on board as the composer. Yannick Ben is the stunt choreographer.

Dominic Arun made his feature-length directorial debut with the quirky crime comedy Tharangam, starring Tovino, Santhy, and Balu Varghese. Dominic recently directed Oblivion, a futuristic music video written by Santhy and shot by Nimish.
