Following the success Chhorii in 2021, the sequel to the Vishal Furia directorial is headed to Amazon Prime Video on April 11. The original film made a significant impression for its unique take on the horror genre, while also highlighting the pressing issue of female infanticide.
Set seven years after the events of Chhorii, Sakshi must fight to save her daughter who has been taken away by an evil supernatural force as part of an age-old sacrificial ritual by a menacing cult. The horror flick stars Nushrratt Bharuccha, Soha Ali Khan, Gashmeer Mahajani, Saurabh Goyal, and Pallavi Ajay.
While the first film garnered mixed reviews, Bharuccha’s performance as the frightened Sakshi was lauded. In a recent interaction with PTI, the actress revealed that her career pivoted when Chhorii debuted in 2021, which she believes changed the audience's perception of her. “After Chhorii, I’ve had Janhit Mein Jaari and Akelli and now I've two-three other films, which I don't know how it happened, it's not like I'm going out there and choosing those films, I'm not. I'm very happy doing other films and other parts also.”
"But somehow it's (Chhorii) changed audiences and trade perception of me, a mixture of that is bringing more scripts that way,” the 39-year-old continued. Prior to taking on the lead role in the horror flick, Bharuccha was more predominantly known to be the face of romance and comedy entertainers.
Chhorii 2 is bankrolled by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar of T-Series Production, and Vikram Malhotra of Abundantia Entertainment.
